EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
EMDR is a type of therapy that enables people to heal from symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. The brain has an information processing system that naturally moves towards mental health; when the system is blocked or impacted by disturbing events, we get stuck in unprocessed emotional wounds and intense suffering. EMDR helps activate the natural healing processes and aids in processing disturbing memories.
Talk Therapy
There are many approaches to traditional talk therapy; some therapists specialize in one framework, while others prefer to draw from several theories, depending on what fits each client’s needs. I fall into the second category, and draw on techniques from a variety of disciplines in my practice. For instance, someone who has a specific problem might benefit from solution-focused techniques, while a cognitive-behavioral approach might help someone manage anxiety. ALL SESSIONS ARE CONDUCTED ONLINE.
I have experience working with the following:
- Grief
- Trauma
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Burnout
- Life Transitions
Online Therapy
At this time, to continue to protect everyone, I am offering online therapy, conducted through a secure HIPAA compliant platform. Requirements for online therapy:
- You must be within the state of Maryland;
- You must have access to a popular web browser and ability to download an app;
- You should have quiet and comfortable place to hold session;
- You should be alone, unless previously agreed otherwise;
- Same fees and policies apply as for in-person therapy.
Walk and Talk
A literal walk in the park, walk and talk therapy is very similar to traditional psychotherapy, except you are walking while you are talking about issues. Numerous studies show that exercise has positive effects on the brain, especially in people suffering with depression; anxiety and grief are two other conditions that can benefit from changing the setting of the session to walk and talk. Additionally, anyone feeling stuck or struggling with eye contact in the office can benefit from walk and talk; the outdoors counterbalance feeling stuck with a sense of freedom, and walking side-by-side takes away the pressure of having to look your therapist in the eye.
